The character of Cootes Paradise is exemplified by its calm environment. There are a few public green spaces close by for residents to explore and they are very well-spread out, making it easy to reach them. This neighbourhood is also quiet, as the streets are usually quite calm - although there are still several noisier sections, especially around Highway 403 or one of the railway lines.


The preferred means of transportation in Cootes Paradise is usually driving. It is especially convenient to access a parking spot, and it is a reasonably short car ride to the closest highway, such as Highway 403, from any home in this part of Hamilton. In contrast, the public transit system in Cootes Paradise is not very convenient. Nevertheless, homeowners are served by a few bus lines, and bus stops are ordinarily nearby. It is challenging for pedestrians to get around in this area as most daily needs are inconvenient to carry out without the use of a car. Although the cycling infrastructure is quite well-developed, and riding a bike is better in certain pockets than others, this part of Hamilton is also not especially amenable to biking since there is a significant amount of elevation changes.


A majority of the housing growth in Cootes Paradise took place pre-1960. Single detached homes are the predominant housing type, representing the majority of buildings in this neighbourhood, and the remaining homes are mainly large apartment buildings. Homeowners occupy roughly 70% of the units in Cootes Paradise and 30% are rented. This area also has a good selection of housing sizes; properties range from lofts to four or more bedrooms.


Accessing the closest supermarket by walking is an option for some, but not all, house buyers in Cootes Paradise. Residents benefit from a few restaurants and coffee shops. In terms of education, families will appreciate that wherever their house is situated in this neighbourhood, primary schools are nearby. On the other hand, Cootes Paradise does not have any high schools.
