Departure Bay is a good neighbourhood to buy a house in for those who prefer a slower-paced atmosphere. This part of Nanaimo is quiet, as the streets are generally quite peaceful. Finally, a large number of locations within the neighbourhood have good access to public green spaces, such as Beach Estates Park and Linley Valley Cottle Lake Park, since there are around 30 of them nearby for residents to unwind in.

Transportation

Driving is usually the best method of transportation in Departure Bay. It is very easy to park. On the other hand, commuting by transit can be challenging in Departure Bay due to the low service level. Thankfully, there are a few bus lines, and most properties are very close to a bus stop. Departure Bay is not very conducive to walking as running daily errands is inconvenient.

Housing

In Departure Bay, roughly 60% of dwellings are single detached homes, while small apartment buildings and duplexes are also present in the housing stock. This area offers mainly three bedroom and four or more bedroom homes. Homeowners occupy roughly two thirds of the properties in Departure Bay whereas the remainder are rented. This part of the city experienced its biggest construction boom in the 1960s and 1970s, so most of the available housing is from this time period.

Services

It is a reasonably short walk to reach primary schools and daycares from most properties for sale in Departure Bay. On the other hand, there are no high schools in this part of Nanaimo. With regards to food, getting to the closest grocery store on foot is feasible for some, but not all, property owners in Departure Bay. A small number of restaurants and coffee shops can be found as well.
