Doon South offers a relaxed environment and will appeal to those who enjoy spending time in green spaces. This neighbourhood is reasonably good for those who like quiet surroundings, as the streets are quite peaceful - although that is not the case near Highway 401. Lastly, it is very easy to get to public green spaces from most locations in the neighbourhood, since there are approximately 30 of them nearby for residents to explore, such as Doon Creek Natural Area and Stauffer Community Park.

Transportation

Doon South is very car friendly. Many real estate listings are a rather short car ride from the nearest highway, such as Highway 401, and it is very easy to park. In contrast, this area is not a very convenient part of Kitchener for getting around by public transit. Nonetheless, homeowners are served by a few bus lines. A majority of the houses for sale in this neighbourhood are located in places that are not very conducive to walking as carrying out day-to-day needs is very impractical. On the other hand, moving around by bicycle is easy in this part of the city since there are a fair number of bike lanes.

Housing

Single detached homes are the most common housing type, representing around 85% of buildings in Doon South, and the remaining properties are mainly townhouses. Most housing in this part of the city was built following the year 2000, during its biggest building boom. This neighbourhood is primarily composed of three bedroom and four or more bedroom homes. Homeowners occupy roughly 95% of the units in the neighbourhood and the rest are rented.

Services

In all but a very small number of cases, a car is needed in this neighbourhood to access the closest supermarket. There are also a few restaurants in Doon South. Concerning education, it is a reasonably short walk to get to primary schools from any location in this part of Kitchener. On the other hand, high schools are not plentiful and therefore not always within walking distance. Families are served by public and private primary schools.
