Fernwood real estate guide & listings for sale

Fernwood is a reasonably good neighbourhood to buy a house in for those who prefer a slower-paced environment. Parks are very easy to access since there are about 10 of them close by for residents to unwind in. This neighbourhood is quiet overall, as noise from the streets and other parts of the city is rarely an issue.

Transportation

Fernwood is a reasonably good part of the city with respect to travelling without driving. Property owners can count on public transit to navigate Fernwood. There are approximately 20 bus lines passing through the neighbourhood, and bus stops are not very far from most residences. In contrast, cars are a sometimes poor mode of transportation in this area as the street layout is not very well suited for driving, and the majority of properties for sale are a very long drive from the nearest highway. Fernwood is a very convenient part of Victoria for pedestrians; many daily needs can be carried out on foot, and a variety of businesses are reasonably close by.

Housing

Small apartment buildings are the main housing type, representing around 60% of buildings in Fernwood, while duplexes and single detached homes make up most of the remaining housing stock. This part of the city is primarily composed of two bedroom and one bedroom homes. Roughly two thirds of the population of this neighbourhood rent their home whereas owners make up the remainder. The homes in this area are quite old, because about 40% of its buildings were built pre-1960, while most of the remaining buildings were constructed in the 1960s and the 1980s.

Services

It is very easy to get to both a general and a specialty grocery store by walking from most properties for sale in this part of the city. Furthermore, Fernwood is a fairly good place in which to go out to eat or go to a cafe. House buyers have access to numerous clothing stores within walking distance, for instance on Fort Street. As far as education is concerned, it is a reasonably short walk to reach daycares and schools from anywhere in this part of the city.
