Island View is quiet, as noise from streets and other parts of the city is rarely an issue - although that is not the case closer to the railway line. Access to public green spaces is rather difficult in the neighbourhood since they aren't well-spread out. Still, there are a few parks nearby for residents to relax in.
The best way to move around in Island View is usually a car. The majority of real estate listings are a short drive from the closest highway, and accessing a parking spot is generally easy. Walking is not very practical for property owners in Island View since most daily needs are very impractical to meet without having to resort to a vehicle.
In Island View, most buildings are single detached homes, and the remaining dwellings are mainly small apartment buildings and townhouses. This neighbourhood is primarily composed of four or more bedroom and three bedroom homes. Homeowners occupy about 70% of the dwellings in the neighbourhood whereas the remainder are rented. About one quarter of homes in this area were constructed in the 1960s and 1970s, while the majority of the remaining buildings were built pre-1960 and in the 1980s.
There are only a few primary schools in this part of Saint John and accordingly they can be an extended walk away. Likewise, Island View does not contain any high schools. Additionally, families may find it difficult for their children to access daycares on foot. With respect to eating, a car is generally required in this neighbourhood to reach the nearest supermarket. A small selection of restaurants can be found in Island View as well.
