Port Whitby is quiet, as the streets are usually reasonably tranquil - although there are still several louder sections, especially around one of the railway lines or Highway 401.
The best transportation option in this area is very often a car. Most properties for sale are a reasonably short drive from the closest highway, such as Highway 401, and it is very easy to come across a parking spot. On the other hand, this part of the town is not particularly transit friendly. Nonetheless, there is the Whitby Station on the Lakeshore East Line. The neighbourhood is connected by about 10 bus lines, and bus stops are not very far away from most houses. Most houses for sale in this area are located in places that are not very well-suited for those who travel by foot as very few common errands can be run without needing to resort to a car.
In Port Whitby, roughly half of dwellings are single detached homes, and the remainder are mainly large apartment buildings and townhouses. This part of the town is primarily composed of four or more bedroom and three bedroom homes. About 85% of the population of this neighbourhood own their home while the remainder are renters. A majority of the housing growth in this neighbourhood has taken place after the year 2000.
It is a reasonably short walk to access primary schools from most properties for sale in this part of the town. However, this neighbourhood does not have any high schools. In terms of food, in all but a limited number of cases, a vehicle is needed to shop for groceries. Nevertheless, reaching the closest pharmacy and thus some staple foods is generally easy. There are also a few opportunities for those who care about restaurants and cafes within walking distance.
