Vanier offers a vast selection of green spaces to enjoy. It is very easy to access public green spaces from most locations within the neighbourhood since there are a few of them nearby for residents to discover. Lastly, this area is relatively quiet, thanks to the presence of relatively few people out and about on the streets; however noise levels are higher closer to one of the railway lines, Highway 7 or Highway 8.


Driving is an excellent medium of transportation in Vanier. It is easy to park, and many houses for sale are a short drive from the closest highway, such as Highway 8. In contrast, getting around by transit can be at times difficult in this part of the city by reason of the infrequent service. Nonetheless, there are approximately 10 bus lines, and bus stops are generally nearby. Vanier is bike-friendly as there are a fair number of bike lanes. Vanier is not especially well-suited for those who travel by foot because running common errands is at times difficult.


Large apartment buildings are the most common housing type, representing around 40% of dwellings in Vanier, and the rest are mainly small apartment buildings, single detached homes, and townhouses. This part of Kitchener is primarily composed of three bedroom and two bedroom homes. Around 60% of the population of this neighbourhood rent their home while the rest are owners. Roughly 45% of homes in this area were built in the 1960s and 1970s, while many of the remaining buildings were constructed pre-1960 and in the 1980s.


It is generally possible for property owners in Vanier to buy groceries by walking. Furthermore, this neighbourhood is a fairly good place in which to go out to eat, and a small selection of coffee shops can be found as well. It is also a reasonably short walk to a decent variety of clothing stores. In terms of education, parents and their schoolchildren will welcome that wherever their home is located in Vanier, primary schools are close by. On the other hand, Vanier does not contain any high schools. At the primary level, both public and private schools can be found.
