This neighbourhood is quiet, as there are generally low levels of noise from traffic - although there are still several louder sections, especially close to Highway 85. The best method to navigate Willowdale is usually a car. It is straightforward to find a parking spot, and nearby highways, such as Highway 85, are very easy to drive to from anywhere in this neighbourhood. On the other hand, Willowdale is not an especially convenient part of Waterloo for travelling by public transit. Thankfully, there are a few bus lines passing through the neighbourhood, and the closest bus stop is typically very close. Even though certain bicycling-friendly pockets can be found, the bicycle is a sometimes poor method of transportation in Willowdale as there are a limited number of bike lanes, and there is a significant amount of elevation changes. Travelling by foot is also not very popular in Willowdale, although meeting daily needs is convenient.


Single detached homes are the predominant housing type, representing many buildings in Willowdale, but large apartment buildings and townhouses are also present in the housing stock. A majority of the housing growth in this neighbourhood took place in the 1960s and 1970s. This area is primarily composed of two bedroom and three bedroom homes. About two thirds of the population of this neighbourhood own their home and renters make up the remainder.


Families will find that wherever their property is located in Willowdale, both primary and secondary schools are close by. In contrast, daycares are not especially abundant and therefore not always within walking distance. Concerning food, it is generally feasible for property owners in Willowdale to do grocery shopping on foot. Likewise, those who like to dine in restaurants will have a good number of opportunities.
