Bay Ridges is good for those who like quiet surroundings, as the streets are peaceful - however noise can be problematic closer to one of the railway lines or Highway 401. Parks are sparse, which makes them very hard to access from the majority of locations in this part of Pickering.

Transportation

Bay Ridges is an extraordinarily good part of Pickering for driving. Parking is easy, and the majority of real estate listings are a short car ride from the closest highway, such as Highway 401. However, commuting by transit can be occasionally difficult in Bay Ridges as a result of the service's low frequency. Thankfully, homeowners are served by the Pickering Station with access to the Lakeshore East Line. The neighbourhood is linked by about 10 bus lines, and bus stops are not very far-removed from most homes. Bay Ridges is not particularly convenient for walking because few common errands can be run on foot. Cycling is also challenging in this part of the city as the bicycling infrastructure is not very comprehensive, and there is a considerable amount of hills.

Single detached homes are the predominant housing type, representing about 40% of dwellings in Bay Ridges, and the rest are mainly large apartment buildings, duplexes, and townhouses. This area is primarily composed of four or more bedroom and three bedroom homes. Roughly 80% of the dwellings in the neighbourhood are occupied by homeowners whereas the rest are rented. Most of the housing growth in this area took place in the 1960s and 1970s.

Services

In this part of the city, parents and their children will usually be able to access primary schools on foot. However, there are no high schools in this area. Regarding eating, it is occasionally possible for property owners in Bay Ridges to reach the nearest supermarket on foot. Nevertheless, getting to the nearest pharmacy and consequently some basic food items is generally easy. This neighbourhood is a good place in which to go out to eat or go to a cafe.
