Big Beach offers a calm environment and will appeal to those who enjoy spending time outdoors. Although this community is not home to any parks, public green spaces are scarce in nearby communities, which results in them being very easy to get to from most locations within the community. The noise levels in this area are also very low, as the streets are very tranquil.

Transportation

This area is especially car friendly. Finding a parking spot is quite easy. This area is not very conducive to people who prefer to get around as pedestrians because many daily needs are nearly impossible to carry out without a car. The bicycle is a quite poor means of transportation in Big Beach because there are very few bike lanes, and there are a fair number of slopes for cyclists to brave.

Housing

Roughly one third of properties in Big Beach were built pre-1960, while most of the remaining buildings were constructed in the 1960s and the 1990s. In this area, the overwhelming majority of dwellings are single detached homes. Roughly 95% of the properties in the community are occupied by homeowners and 5% are rented. This part of the municipality is primarily composed of four or more bedroom and three bedroom homes.

Services

In all but a very small number of cases, a vehicle is required in Big Beach to access the closest supermarket. When it comes to education, there are no high schools and no primary schools in this part of Cape Breton Municipality. In addition, daycares are not plentiful and accordingly not always within walking distance.
