Columbia Hills is excellent for those who need quiet areas, as there isn't a lot of street noise or city clamour. Access to public green spaces is sometimes difficult within the neighbourhood since they aren't well-located. Still, there are approximately 10 parks nearby for residents to relax in.

Transportation

Driving is an excellent transportation option in this area. Parking is generally easy. In contrast, Columbia Hills is not very transit friendly. Nevertheless, residents have access to a few bus lines, and it is convenient to find a nearby bus stop from most homes. Bicycling is difficult in this neighbourhood because there are quite a few slopes, and the cycling infrastructure is rather limited. A majority of the homes for sale in this part of the city are located in places that are also not very convenient for walking as very few daily needs can be carried out without the use of a car.

Housing

Roughly 85% of the population of this neighbourhood own their home and 15% are renters. Single detached homes and townhouses are the predominant housing type in this part of Waterloo. This area experienced its largest building boom after the year 2000, so most of the available properties are from this time period. This part of the city also has a selection of unit sizes; there is a higher proportion of three bedroom homes in this neighbourhood.

Services

Some, but not all, property owners in Columbia Hills will reside within walking distance of the nearest grocery store. A small selection of restaurants and coffee shops can be found. In terms of education, in Columbia Hills, families will often be able to access primary schools by walking. In contrast, families may consider it difficult for their kids to reach high schools as a pedestrian.
