The character of Coquitlam is exemplified by its calm atmosphere. Most areas in this city are reasonably quiet, as there are usually low levels of noise from traffic - however noise can be bothersome near one of the railway lines or Trans-Canada Highway. Lastly, there are over 250 parks close by for residents to explore, making it very easy to get to them from most locations within Coquitlam.

Coquitlam is very car friendly. Parking is quite easy. However, commuting by public transit is at times difficult in this city. Nevertheless, homeowners are served by the Burquitlam Station, Lincoln Station and Coquitlam Central Station on the West Coast Express Line and Millenium Line. There are many rapid transit stations on the Millenium Line. There are approximately 30 bus lines crossing the city, and it is very easy to find a nearby bus stop from most residences. Despite the fact that there are a good number of bike lanes, moving around by bicycle is challenging in this city because cyclists encounter a significant amount of hills. It is also impractical for people walking to move around in Coquitlam since carrying out daily needs is inconvenient by walking.
