Downtown is a "jack-of-all-trades" when it comes to the feel of this neighbourhood. Even though the ambience is not the most lively in this neighbourhood with its approximately 10 nightlife venues, there are options for nighttime activities. Downtown is fairly good for those who need a quiet atmosphere, as there isn't a lot of street noise or city clamour. Reaching public green spaces in the neighbourhood, including Indian Battle Park and Helen Schuler Nature Centre, is very easy since there are about 10 of them close by for residents to relax in.
Transportation
People who appreciate living in a compact community will enjoy the moderately pedestrian-friendly character of this part of the city; many daily errands can be run without a car, and there are also a good number of businesses close by. Downtown is also a fairly pleasant part of Lethbridge for cyclists. More precisely, the bicycling network is reasonably good. Downtown is very car friendly. Parking is quite easy, and it is a short car ride to the closest highway from any location in this part of the city. On the other hand, the transit access in Downtown is sometimes poor. Nevertheless, there are a few bus lines passing through the neighbourhood, and bus stops are not very far-removed from most residences.
Housing
Around 55% of dwellings are small apartment buildings, making it easy to find apartments in Downtown, but large apartment buildings are also present in the housing stock. This part of the city is primarily composed of two bedroom and one bedroom homes. About 55% of the population of this neighbourhood rent their home and 45% are owners. About one third of homes in this part of the city were built between 1990 and 2000, while many of the remaining buildings were constructed pre-1960 and in the 1960s.
Services
The nearest supermarket in this part of the city is typically only a short trip away. Likewise, there are a fair number of opportunities for those who appreciate nearby restaurants and cafes. It is also a short walk to a very good choice of clothing stores. When it comes to education, daycares are especially convenient to get to by foot from anywhere in this part of the city. In contrast, there are only a limited number of high schools in Downtown and therefore they can be a rather long trip away. Moreover, Downtown does not have any primary schools.
