Downtown is a "jack-of-all-trades" when it comes to the feel of this part of the city. There are many things to do in this part of the city to explore. There are usually a large number of people around, there is a great variety of entertainment venues, and places to go out at night are well-distributed throughout the area. Jasper Avenue Northwest in particular offers a wide selection of nightlife. Downtown is reasonably quiet, as there are generally low levels of noise from traffic. Public green spaces are very easy to get to since there are a few of them nearby for residents to unwind in.


Downtown affords homeowners several alternative means of transportation. With a multitude of nearby rapid transit stations on the Capital Line, Metro Line and Route 512, and over 50 nearby bus lines, Downtown features an excellent public transit infrastructure. It is also especially convenient for pedestrians to move around in Downtown; most day-to-day needs are very easy to meet on foot, and a fair number of businesses of different types can be found as well. This part of the city is quite amenable to biking as the cycling infrastructure is excellent.


In Downtown, around three quarters of buildings are large apartment buildings, and the remaining homes are mainly small apartment buildings. This neighbourhood is notable for those looking for one bedroom homes. Around 70% of the population of this neighbourhood rent their home and the rest are owners. Roughly one third of properties in this area were built in the 1960s and 1970s, while the majority of the remaining buildings were built pre-1960 and in the 2000s.


A general and a specialty grocery store is always only a very short walk away in Downtown. Likewise, there are over 300 restaurants and over 50 coffee shops to enjoy in this neighbourhood. Home buyers benefit from numerous nearby clothing stores. Regarding education, in Downtown, families will typically be able to reach schools and daycares by walking. At the secondary level, both public and private schools can be found.
