Island Lakes is a very good neighbourhood to buy a home in for those who prefer a slower-paced environment. Public green spaces, including Lindsey Wilson Park, are very well-located and there are approximately 10 of them close by for residents to discover, which makes it easy to reach them. This part of the city is also very good for those who enjoy quiet areas, as the streets are usually very tranquil.


The car is usually the favoured method to move around in this area. Most homes for sale are a short drive from the closest highway, and it is very easy to park. In contrast, travelling by public transit is difficult in Island Lakes. Nevertheless, the neighbourhood is connected by a few bus lines, and most houses are very close to a bus stop. It is impractical for people travelling on foot to move around in Island Lakes because carrying out daily needs is challenging by walking.


Single detached homes and row houses are the main housing type in Island Lakes. This part of the city is primarily composed of four or more bedroom and three bedroom homes. Nearly 90% of the units in the neighbourhood are occupied by homeowners and 10% are rented. About one third of homes in this part of the city were constructed in the 1980s, while many of the remaining buildings were built in the 1990s and the 2000s.


Doing one's groceries very often necessitates the use of a vehicle in this neighbourhood. There are a few opportunities for those who appreciate restaurants within walking distance. Concerning education, primary schools are easy to get to on foot from anywhere in this part of Winnipeg. On the other hand, there are no high schools in Island Lakes.
