Richelieu is quiet, as the streets are generally reasonably peaceful - although that is not the case near Autoroute des Cantons-de-l'Est. The greenery in this city is not particularly prominent, however there are a few public green spaces close by for residents to relax in.
Richelieu is very car friendly. It is very convenient to find a parking spot, and most homes for sale are a rather short drive from the nearest highway, such as Autoroute des Cantons-de-l'Est. However, the public transit network in Richelieu is quite poor. Nonetheless, residents have access to a few bus lines. It is very difficult for people walking to navigate Richelieu as almost no common errands can be run on foot.
In Richelieu, the majority of buildings are single detached homes, but small apartment buildings are also present in the housing stock. Roughly one quarter of properties in this city were built between 1960 and 1980, while the majority of the remaining buildings were constructed pre-1960 and in the 1980s. This part of the Greater Montréal metropolitan area also has a good selection of housing size options; it is quite easy to find properties ranging from lofts to four or more bedrooms. About two thirds of the population of this city own their home and the remainder are renters.
Some property owners in Richelieu may have the option to shop for their groceries by walking, while others will have to turn to a vehicle. Residents are served by about 10 restaurants and cafes as well. With respect to education, there are only a few primary schools in Richelieu and consequently they can be a long walk away. In addition, Richelieu does not have any high schools. Furthermore, families may consider it very difficult to access daycares as a pedestrian.
