Riverside is a reasonably good neighbourhood to buy a home in for those who prefer a relaxed environment. There are a few green spaces nearby for residents to check out, including Bud Bremner Park, and they are especially well-spread out, which makes it easy to get to them. This neighbourhood is also quiet, as there tend to be low levels of noise from traffic.
Transportation
The car is usually the preferred means of transportation in Riverside. It is a very short drive to the nearest highway from any location in this neighbourhood, and it is very convenient to park. In contrast, the public transit service in Riverside is not very frequent. Nonetheless, the neighbourhood is served by a few bus lines, and most residences are very close to a bus stop. Walking is not particularly convenient for property owners in Riverside because few daily needs can be carried out without a vehicle. Riverside is also not very amenable to cycling because there are a good number of hills to challenge cyclists, and the cycling infrastructure is somewhat poor.
Housing
Roughly two thirds of the properties in the neighbourhood are occupied by homeowners and one third are rented. In this part of Halifax, the majority of buildings are single detached homes, while small apartment buildings are also present in the housing stock. About one quarter of homes in this part of the municipality were constructed in the 1990s, while most of the remaining buildings were built pre-1960 and in the 1960s. This neighbourhood has a good selection of housing size options, ranging from lofts to four or more bedrooms.
Services
It is a short walk to get to secondary schools and daycares from anywhere in this area. However, there are no primary schools in Riverside. As far as eating is concerned, property owners in this area will appreciate that a grocery store is always only a short stroll away. A limited variety of restaurants and coffee shops is available as well. Furthermore, it is convenient to access a selection of clothing stores without needing to get in a vehicle.
