The Beaches has a character that appeals to a fairly diverse group of people. The Beaches is quiet overall, as the streets are generally reasonably tranquil. Lastly, although the ambience is not the most lively in this part of Toronto, its busier streets can still be quite dynamic, and finding one of the approximately 10 bars is very easy because they are generally situated in very convenient locations. Kingston Road in particular offers a wide selection of nightlife.

Transportation

No matter the medium of transportation, it is straightforward to travel in this part of Toronto. This area is reasonably transit friendly. In particular, there is the Danforth with access to the Lakeshore East. There are approximately 10 bus lines, and bus stops are not very far-removed from most residences. This neighbourhood will also draw house buyers who want to be in a walkable community as it is very walking-friendly; meeting daily needs is convenient without a vehicle, and a fair number of businesses of different types can be found as well. This area is a fairly pleasant part of Toronto for bike riders. In particular, there are a fair number of bike lanes.

Housing

Small apartment buildings are the most common housing type, representing around 40% of dwellings in The Beaches, while single detached homes and townhouses make up most of the remaining housing stock. This area has a good variety of unit sizes, ranging from lofts to four or more bedrooms. Roughly two thirds of the population of this neighbourhood own their home and one third are renters. Most of the housing growth in this neighbourhood happened prior to the 1960s.

Services

In The Beaches, families will usually be able to access schools and daycares without needing a vehicle. Regarding eating, both general and specialty grocery stores are ordinarily accessible within a short trip from any location in this neighbourhood. In addition, with 150-odd restaurants and cafes in The Beaches, there is typically a spot to get a meal or beverage just around the corner. It is also a short distance to a very good variety of clothing stores, for instance along Queen Street.
