There are a lot of green spaces to enjoy in Vanier, as well as some areas with a vibrant ambience. Parks, such as Parc linéaire de la Rivière Saint-Charles and Parc Victorin-Beaucage, are very well-spread out and there are a few of them nearby for residents to relax in, making them easy to get to. Finally, this neighbourhood is relatively quiet, due to the presence of few pedestrians, although noise levels are higher closer to Autoroute Félix-Leclerc, Autoroute Laurentienne or the railway line.

Transportation

Biking is easy in this neighbourhood since this area features a reasonably good cycling infrastructure, and it is an even ride to most locations. Physically active home buyers will also be pleased with the pedestrian-friendly character of Vanier; many daily errands can be run without the use of a vehicle. Vanier is not an especially convenient part of Québec for getting around by public transit. Nonetheless, residents benefit from about 10 bus lines, and the nearest bus stop is typically very close. However, driving is an excellent transportation option in Vanier. Nearby highways, such as Autoroute Laurentienne, are very easy to reach from anywhere in Vanier, and it is very convenient to find a place to park.

Housing

The large proportion of small apartment buildings in the housing stock of Vanier is an important part of its character. This neighbourhood is primarily composed of one bedroom and two bedroom homes. Roughly 70% of the dwellings in the neighbourhood are occupied by renters whereas the remainder are occupied by owners. Around one third of homes in this neighbourhood were constructed in the 1960s and 1970s, while the majority of the remaining buildings were built pre-1960 and in the 1980s.

Families will find that wherever their house is located in this part of the city, both primary and secondary schools are close by. In contrast, daycares are not particularly abundant and consequently not always within walking distance. When it comes to food, it is generally practical for home buyers in this area to purchase their groceries on foot. Furthermore, this part of the city is a good place in which to go out to eat, and a small variety of coffee shops can be found as well. It is also easy to get to a selection of clothing stores on foot.
